The Requirements

To be a good fit for the Junior Project Manager opportunity you should have:
  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering or a technical discipline
  • Knowledge of PMBOK
  • 3 to 5 years of project management experience related to product development
  • The ability to:
    • Manage every stage of the product development life cycle
    • Mine data, conduct research and develop product specifications
    • Establish, maintain and monitor product development details and scheduling dependencies
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and high-level Excel skills) and MS Project or similar project management software
  • The ability to create and leverage Gantt charts and other visual/summation project tools
  • Working knowledge of the interrelationships between and among Product Development, Packaging, Supply Chain, Quality, Marketing, etc.
  • Proven success working with suppliers and vendors; the ideal candidate will have built a strong network of resources

Reporting to the Director of Product Development, as Junior Project Manager, you will be responsible for the PM discipline associated with developing timelines, assigning tasks, communication among resources and stakeholders across our complete product portfolio. You'll work with a strong and talented team of cross-functional stakeholders and manage every aspect of the product life cycle, from requirement gathering through maintenance and technical support.

You'll find you'll work with passionate and highly involved people. At times they'll have strong ideas and you'll need a thick skin as you work through the early stages of development. You should take a collaborative, inclusive approach initially, but once development is underway and decisions have been made, you'll often need to be assertive as you take back control. Once the project is underway, everyone should be onboard and committed to delivering a top-notch product. You will be responsible for multiple projects at any given time.

If you're the candidate we seek, you have the experience and knowledge to know most of what the position entails, however, to ensure we're drawing an accurate picture, your responsibilities will include:
  • Working with R&D to research, analyze, and refine ideas
  • Developing business plans for new products, including budgets
  • Ensuring potential products are tested, in collaboration with R&D
  • Sourcing vendors for all necessary product and production elements
  • At times negotiating terms
  • Managing the entire product life cycle
  • Managing vendor relationships and ensuring they comply with specifications and quality standards
  • Developing and executing strategies for marketing, distribution, and sales
  • Providing appropriate information and education for licensees
  • Ensuring customer support is available to licensees and consumers
  • Establishing processes for tracking and reporting sales and other key metrics

Typically, you will work on six to eight products simultaneously, but that number could be as high as a dozen or more. Normally, projects will be at different stages of development and release dates will be staggered, but you’ll need the flexibility to adjust as workflow demands.
